Subject: [SIGSAM-FRIENDS] Fully funded PhD position in Mathematical
Biology at Coventry University
To: <SIGSAM-FRIENDS at listserv.acm.org>
We invite applications for a fully funded (tuition fees and living
stipend) PhD position on a project titled “Microbiology population
modelling with the aid of computer algebra techniques” scheduled to
start in January 2025. The project is at the intersection of
mathematics, computer science and biology. The student will develop
skills in mathematical modelling; programming and computer algebra;
and also physical experiments on Ecoli bacteria in a microbiology lab.
The lead supervisor is Dr AmirHosein Sadeghimanesh from the Coventry
University Research Centre for Computational Science and Mathematical
Modelling (CSMM). There are two other advisors in the supervisory
team: Dr Matthew England (also from CSMM) and Dr Igor Morozov from the
Coventry University Research Centre for Health and Life Sciences, who
will train and guide the student in the microbiology lab experiments.
We do not expect to find a candidate who is expert in all three
disciplines: talented candidates with expertise in at least one of
these three areas and who are open and interested to learning about
the other two are invited to apply! Further details about the project
and the expectations from the student can be found in the link below.
The interested candidates should read this link carefully and then
contact Dr AmirHosein Sadeghimanesh
(https://pureportal.coventry.ac.uk/en/persons/amirhosein-sadeghimanesh).
The application will be closing in the second week of September, and
so the interested candidates should act as soon as possible.

It might be helpful for the interested candidates to watch the
following two simple seminars given by Dr Sadeghimanesh at
Chulalongkorn University in Thailand to get a feeling about the kind
of mathematics they will encounter in the project.
